After-School Boxing Club for Students Check out this innovative addition to our extracurricular activities: the Boxing Club. The club is aimed at promoting exercise, camaraderie, self-defense skills, and has proven to be an exciting opportunity for students across our district. Partnering with Real Deal Boxing Club, known for its commitment to training and excellence in the sport, will give students who demonstrate progress and dedication within the school club an opportunity to join Real Deal Boxing Club. As part of the 21st Century grant initiative, which emphasizes holistic development and enrichment for students, the After-School Boxing Club offers an array of benefits. Not only do students have the chance to learn self-defense techniques and improve their fitness levels, but they are also provided with meals. The upcoming highlight for our boxers is a field trip scheduled for May 4th at the Flock Dome. Here, students will get to watch members of Real Deal Boxing Club in action, witnessing firsthand the skill and practice required to excel in the sport. During a recent practice session, we had the opportunity to observe the club in action. Students engaged in a dynamic warm-up routine that included jump roping, followed by instruction on proper hand wrapping techniques by advisor and teacher Joel Bartlett and Mindy Reichelt. Notably, experienced students took on mentorship roles, assisting their peers in learning how to wrap their hands. The practice session was structured with timed intervals so that students could engage in a workout with various exercises and equipment. From free-standing bags to speed bags, heavy bags, angled heavy bags, and double end bags, students had the chance to explore different aspects of boxing training under expert guidance. We are excited about the positive impact the After-School Boxing Club continues to have on our students, not only does it encourage physical fitness and self-defense skills, but it also creates a sense of belonging and teamwork among participants. We are grateful for the partnership with Real Deal Boxing Club and look forward to seeing our students thrive in the sport.

Mt. Healthy Students Showcase Mathematical Thinking in Multi-State Tournament! We're bursting with pride as our wonderful students demonstrated their mathematical prowess in the Mathematics Pentathlon Tournament in Indianapolis, IN this past weekend! From generating complex equations to critical thinking and problem solving at their finest, our “MATHLETES” engaged in thrilling competitions, each playing five different games at their respective grade levels, all aligned with Ohio’s Learning Standards for Math. Competing against students from multiple states, Quincy D., Maya M., Mercy M., Joy O., Aubrianna T., Lamonte G., Alyanna H., Kenya H., A’Niyla G., Bruce B., June B., Sky C., Dominique C., Jaime M., Edmond O., and Maki G. upheld the highest standards of academic excellence and sportsmanship, representing Mt. Healthy City School District with pride and distinction. In the special awards ceremony, all competitors were recognized for their effort and dedication, receiving certificates to commemorate their participation and accomplishments in this prestigious tournament. Notably, we're thrilled to announce that two of our remarkable students, fourth grader Lamonte G. and seventh grader Maki G., emerged as medalists! Their achievements serve as an inspiration to us all! A heartfelt expression of gratitude goes out to Zack Ehling, Jane Haffner, Khristi Snelling, Valarie Carter, and Kelley Fitzpatrick. Their unwavering support and dedication have been instrumental in nurturing our students' growth and learning in the Math Pentathlon Club settings leading up to the tournament. Moreover, we extend our deepest appreciation to the parents of our students who completed game monitor training and assisted at the competition by monitoring game play throughout the day. Their commitment and involvement played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and successful event! We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community businesses - Square Mile Coffee, Dwight Moody State Farm Insurance, and LandTech Designs - whose generous donations helped supply team t-shirts and lunches for all our competitors! A Global Showcase: ELC's Multicultural Event Delights with Dance, Crafts, and Cuisine The Early Learning Center (ELC) dazzled attendees with its vibrant Multicultural Night. The event, held on 4/18/2024, showcased an array of dances from around the globe, offering a rich diversity of cultural experiences to students and families alike. Participants at the Multicultural Celebration Night were treated to a journey through various dance traditions, featuring student performances from Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jordan, Mexico, and Nepal. One of the highlights of the evening was the interactive crafting sessions, where students had the opportunity to create their own banjos and tambourines using simple materials like paper plates. Additionally, they engaged in crafting hand fans, a staple accessory in many traditional dances across various cultures. As part of the festivities, students delved into the culinary delights of different regions, learning to prepare aguas frescas, a refreshing beverage popular in Latin America. The hands-on activity involved mashing watermelon and mixing various ingredients, providing a fun and educational experience. The Multicultural Night also saw participation from parents and students, who contributed to the event's success by dressing in traditional attire and setting up informative displays about their respective home countries. Some parents went the extra mile by bringing traditional snacks to share, further enriching the cultural exchange. It is heartwarming to have hosted such a vibrant and inclusive event that celebrates the rich diversity within our community, the Multicultural Celebration Night not only showcased the talents of our students but also fostered a deeper understanding and respect for different cultures among all attendees. In addition to the lively performances and interactive activities, attendees were treated to a sampling of snacks from each featured country and received multicultural books as souvenirs, promoting an appreciation for global cultures. Tri-state School District Celebrates LaVonda Corner's Achievement at 12th Heroes of Character "Be the Change" Celebration We are proud to announce and celebrate LaVonda Corner, who was honored at the 12th Heroes of Character "Be the Change" Celebration. LaVonda was recognized alongside other outstanding individuals from the Tri-state area for her exemplary contributions as a Proactive Problem Solver. LaVonda exemplifies the values of compassion, dedication, and community service. Her tireless efforts have positively impacted countless lives within our school community and beyond. LaVonda's commitment to proactive problem-solving has made a significant difference in fostering a positive and supportive environment for all. Accompanied by district officials including Superintendent Dr. Valerie Hawkins and Assistant Superintendent Jana Wolfe, as well as her family, LaVonda Corner was honored among a distinguished group of individuals who embody the essence of good character and service to others. District Welcomes Marc Russo for a Musical Extravaganza at the Early Learning Center We want to share the recent visit of musician Marc Russo to the Early Learning Center (ELC) for a captivating musical performance. The event brought joy and excitement to both the students and staff of the ELC. Marc Russo, known for his musical performances and interacting with students, engaged the students with a repertoire of songs that had the ELC students dancing and singing along. One of the highlights of the event was when Marc invited two ELC students to join him on stage for two different songs. The students were given a microphone and led the singing! This interactive addition allowed the children to shine and be part of the performance. The atmosphere at the ELC during Marc Russo's performance was filled with laughter, singing, and joy that you could hear at the front door of the building. We are grateful to have had Marc Russo visit our Early Learning Center and bring such joy to our students and staff, his performance was not only entertaining but also educational. We extend our thanks to Marc for sharing his talent with us.

Celebrating in Style: A Recap of Prom Night We are delighted to share photos from this past Saturday's Prom held at the Willow Event Center. The evening was filled with joy, laughter, and memorable moments, thanks to the collective effort of our staff, families, and community members. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the exceptional team who meticulously coordinated the event and chaperoned throughout the night. They created a safe and enjoyable experience for our students that did not go unnoticed. The night was adorned with beautiful dresses, elegant suits, and an abundance of dancing.The food and drinks provided were delightful, the live DJ kept everyone moving, and the 360 photo booth added an extra touch of fun and nostalgia to the evening. We also extend our gratitude to the many loved ones who drove students to Prom, ensuring that everyone could participate in this special occasion. Your support and involvement are invaluable in creating a sense of community and togetherness within our district. North elementary Multicultural night DATE: May 14th TIME: 6pm-7:30pm WHERE: North Elementary Our Multicultural Night on May 14th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm will feature opportunities for families and friends to explore and participate in activities that each grade level has created to learn about different cultures. Each grade level will have information and activities for students and families to learn about the different cultures of some of our North students. We will also have resources and information available to help assist our families in learning more about community support around the Cincinnati area. Mt. Healthy Schools Hosts Interactive Medical Detectives Event Mt. Healthy Schools proudly hosted an engaging and educational event as part of its Medical Detectives program. Students took on the role of medical investigators as they interviewed and diagnosed patients (staff volunteers) with various simulated diseases. The event, organized by Teacher Christina Lanning, aimed to showcase the students' skills in deductive reasoning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and medical decision-making. Patients were assigned one of fifteen diseases from the school's disease dictionary and participated in interviews during their plan bells or available time slots throughout the day. We were thrilled to see our students in action, applying their classroom learning to real-world scenarios, the Medical Detectives program not only fosters critical thinking but also highlights the importance of communication and teamwork in healthcare settings. Participants in the event received a script outlining their "current symptoms" and a paragraph containing key clues, along with red herrings strategically placed to challenge the students' diagnostic abilities. The students, in turn, asked predetermined questions based on the scripts, simulating a professional medical interview process. It's incredible to see how our students utilize their skills across disciplines to arrive at accurate diagnoses, they demonstrated exceptional professionalism and empathy throughout the interviews. As part of the simulation, students had the opportunity to "order lab tests" to confirm their diagnoses, providing them with a hands-on experience in medical decision-making. Additionally, they inquired about patients' preferred pharmacies in case a prescription needed to be ordered as part of the diagnosis process.

Chisom Eze's Achievement in Cincinnati Youth Poetry Slam The Mt. Healthy School District is happy to announce the outstanding achievement of Chisom Eze, a senior at Mt. Healthy High School, who emerged as one of the 15 finalists in the Cincinnati Youth Poetry Slam. The highly competitive contest took place at Artsville on Friday, April 5, 2024. Chisom, affectionately known as "ChiChi," showcased exceptional talent and passion for poetry as she competed against teams from Walnut Hills, Clark Montessori, and the School for the Performing Arts. Her remarkable performance not only captivated the audience but also earned her recognition as a finalist in this celebrated event. We are incredibly proud of Chichi's accomplishments and her representation of Mt. Healthy High School at the Cincinnati Youth Poetry Slam, her creativity and eloquence exemplify her hard work and talent. ChiChi's success reflects the caliber of our students at Mt. Healthy. The Cincinnati Youth Poetry Slam is a platform that celebrates young poets and their ability to express themselves through the art of spoken word. Join Us for the 3rd Annual Pigs, Pizza, & Poetry Event! We are excited to announce the upcoming 3rd Annual Pigs, Pizza, & Poetry event at Tikkun Farm, and we invite you to join us for this fun-filled evening! Date: May 1st Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Location: Tikkun Farm, 7941 Elizabeth St., Mt. Healthy, OH This event has become a beloved tradition for our families, offering a blend of poetry, delicious pizza, and farm experiences. It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the world of poetry while enjoying the beauty of Tikkun Farm. Highlights of the evening include: Poetry performances by junior high and high school students, along with select sixth graders. Engaging literacy activities for families to enjoy together. Free poetry books for students to take home. The Poetry Challenge: Students can choose to memorize a poem from our list and recite it for a judge during the event. Successful participants will have their names entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $25 Walmart gift cards. We have attached flyers for your convenience. Mt. Healthy Junior High Promotes Active Learning Through Outdoor Activities Check out this recent initiative aimed at fostering active learning among students! Mt. Healthy teachers Ms. Lakes, Ms. Nielsen, and Ms. Vondohre, took their classes outdoors for a unique learning experience. During this outdoor session, students reviewed key English Language Arts (ELA) concepts and vocabulary while engaging in a fun activity. They were given a question, navigated through obstacles, wrote their answers on the sidewalk, and raced back to their teams. This approach encouraged teamwork and reinforced ELA concepts in an interactive way. We believe in making learning engaging for our students and this outdoor activity was a great way for students to work together and review key concepts. The event received positive feedback from both students and staff, highlighting the effectiveness of interactive learning methods. Thank you to Ms. Lakes, Ms. Nielsen, and Ms. Vondohre for their innovative approach to education, promoting active participation and a positive learning environment.

Elizabeth Nickell and Tyler Alsip took the initiative to develop a test preparation curriculum for high school teachers to use with their students during their study skills class. This curriculum familiarizes students with the accessibility features of assessments and incorporates state test study materials. Ms. Nickell sought out an innovative reward for students: Rocket Notebooks, which would serve as both a reward and an educational tool. Rocket Notebooks are cloud-connected smart notebooks that can help anyone organize notes and content. When the test prep data was compiled, Ms. Bryant had the most students show growth, with 6 students making progress! Mrs. Crawford and Mr. Thomas also had students who showed growth from the beginning of the year through the end of the 3rd quarter. Mrs. Nickell reports, “Students have been very positive about the notebooks! They are already being put to use in classes. One of the students had written some things down in his ELA class. Another student, who is quite the artist, was uploading some sketches.” Thank you to Mrs. Nickell and Mr. Alsip for their hard work in putting this together, and to all of our high school teachers who utilized this curriculum to help their students grow as test-takers! Special thanks to Mr. Kinser for finding a funding source for these innovative tools!
