The Food Services Department is introducing several new menu items and initiatives aimed at making meals more interactive and tailored to student preferences. Among these is the "build-your-own" concept, which allows students to customize items like hamburgers, burrito bowls, nachos, and loaded baked potatoes. Additionally, a new pizza option has been added to the menu, with toppings that range from taco-style to meat lovers, and even veggie-focused creations.
Accommodating Dietary Needs and Preferences
Meeting the diverse dietary needs of our students is a priority for the Food Services team. For students with documented allergies, the department is prepared to make necessary accommodations, ensuring that substitutions still meet the nutritional requirements appropriate for their age group. For those with dietary preferences, alternative options are often available. The department operates under the Offer vs Serve model, meaning students can choose three out of five food groups, including at least one fruit or vegetable, instead of taking every item on the menu. This flexibility allows students to enjoy a meal that suits their tastes and needs.
Successes from Last Year and Future Plans
Last year, the department introduced a mobile serving cart, which proved to be a hit among students. The cart was used for a special Valentine's Day hot chocolate and coffee bar, as well as for product sampling events. Due to its success, the department plans to host similar events more frequently throughout this school year, offering students unique and enjoyable dining experiences.
As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, the Food Services Department remains committed to its mission of nourishing our students with meals they love. The team’s innovative approaches ensure that every student has access to healthy, delicious food every day.
