Mt. Healthy Robotics Teams Earn Top Prizes at Competition

Several teams from Mt. Healthy City Schools took top prizes in the M2SE Robotics Competition that took place Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Shroder Paideia High School. “Where in the Neighborhood is Dr. Dunn?” was the title of the competition where teams had to research the use of robots in hospitals and medical centers. Dr. Dunn’s neighborhood, a fictional place, was identified as the ideal location for the new hospital or medical center. Then the teams developed and built a hospital or medical center in Dr. Dunn’s neighborhood. The competition was designed to test students’ creativity, design, research skills as well as curiosity, persistence, and determination characteristics.

Mt. Healthy High School teams, Yorkers and “( )”, took first and third place respectively in Display portion of competition. The team “( )” also took second place in Floor Design and Creativity as well as third place in Robot Functions and the prestigious  A.P Cheny Perseverance Award. Team Yokers took second place in Robot Functions, third place in Floor Design as well as Creativity.

Additionally, the Junior High Team took third place in their division for Floor Design. Ms. Veronica Dean coaches both the high school and junior high teams and expressed great pride in her teams’ results.  Mt. Healthy North Elementary, with Robin McGinnis as coach, had a 4th grade team competing in the Junior High Division, and they earned third place in Display as well as Creativity. This was extra special as these 4th graders were competing against other student teams that were three to four years older than them.

Dr. Reva Cosby, Mt. Healthy City School Superintendent, added,Our students did great in so many areas, it shows their creativity and intelligence! It is exciting to have trophies to acknowledge what we already know about them.
